Dina Gilio-Whitaker (Colville Confederated Tribes) is an award-winning journalist and columnist. She is a lecturer of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos, and independent consultant and educator on environmental justice and other Indigenous policy-related issues. She co-authored along with Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz the popular book “All the Real Indians Died Off” and 20 Other Myths About Native Americans (Beacon Press, 2016). As the Policy Director and Senior Research Associate at the Center for World Indigenous Studies, Dina has worked with Indigenous governments in the U.S. and beyond for many years helping them to formulate policy strategies and work cooperatively with federal and state governments and in other collaborative organizational partnerships.
November is traditionally Native American Heritage month and as such the press is often in tune to publicizing events organized by American Indian and Indigenous communities, work we do year round. We invite all community members, and particularly encourage those who work within the field of journalism, to participate in this workshop focused on developing best practices and skill sets for reporting on Native American and Indigenous issues.
